Process-Based Art Kit
In light of the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, Budding Artists has designed fun Process-Based Art Kits for families with young children between the ages of three and five. These kits will include art materials, a step-by-step instruction guide in English and Spanish to support our emergent bilingual community, and a link to our online resource materials. The online content includes:
allow parents/guardians/learners to connect with our teaching artists,
and various social media engagement opportunities, among other resources.
We want to connect with you and create an even stronger community! We're all in this together.
The Exploration Program
This tuition-free program consists of a one-hour visual art workshop led by our teaching artist(s) once a week for 8 weeks. Our pedagogy is to implement an interdisciplinary creative teaching philosophy rooted in the Reggio Emilia approach.
The Reggio Emilia approach is defined as a philosophy that values children as central to their own learning, able to pursue their own interests, and that they revisit and build upon ideas at their own pace. This perspective makes art a tool for creating meaning to help children build their ideas, thoughts, theories, and perspectives and to construct a new understanding of the subject.
Our teaching artists will create learning experiences, guiding the conversation to promote authentic thinking, inclusivity, creativity and problem-solving, which are all necessary, critical life skills needed in the STEAM
(Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) fields. Participants will expand their linguistic, social/emotional, cognitive, and physical development skills.
Our curriculum incorporates the National Core Arts Standards.
Class sessions are offered in partnership with the City of Lynwood, Parks and Community Services department at the Lucy Avalos Community Center.
Our program is designed for children between the ages of 3 through 5.
The 2020 Summer Exploration Program has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Adult Process-Based Art Workshop
Sarah Tanberg and Dakota McMahand will lead Budding Artists parents and guardians in a process-based art experience at the Lucy Avalos Community Center during the Summer Exploration Program.
This one-hour workshop walks our program parents and guardians through their child's weekly workshop experience. Additionally, program parents and guardians will be prepared with tools to continue the learning experience outside of our program.
The 2020 Summer Adult Process-Based Art Workshop has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Adopt-A-Book Literacy Program
In partnership with the Tena Foundation, our Adopt-A-Book Literacy Program provides young people between the ages 3-17 with free new or gently used books to encourage creativity while promoting mental, emotional and psychological development.
We distribute books year-around at public community events in the South Los Angeles area.
Gift of Play Project
Research suggests when children play, their brains develop creativity and flexibility.
"Play is one of the most important ways in which children learn".
- Jack Shonkoff, Director of the Center on the Developing Child at Harvard University
During the holiday season, Budding Artists donates toys to young children in the South Los Angeles community. We have given away over 60 new toys since the launch of the Gift of Play Project.
