Artist Mug Series

About Our Artist Mug Series

These unique, limited edition mugs are designed by local Los Angeles and Long Beach based artists who donate original designs to support Budding Artists goal of providing tuition-free arts education programming to young pre-kindergarten children in under-resourced areas within Los Angeles County.

Budding Artists has partnered with Mychal’s Learning Place in Hawthorne, CA which provides job training programs to young adults who have developmental disabilities, to produce our mugs. Donations from the Artist Mug Series will support both organizations.

Our mugs:

  • Empower Local LA and Long Beach Artists,

  • Strengthen Mychal's Learning Place job skills program for young adults with developmental disabilities,
  • Support our tuition-free arts education programming for young children in under-resourced communities within Los Angeles County.

Mel Depaz is a Compton based artist. Her work is inspired by the culture in LA and the landmarks she grew up around. She works in all scales producing drawings, paintings and murals. The concept for this mug was inspired by the “hood” areas in LA. It starts off with a Compton landmark then the Watts towers, Downtown LA and finally Inglewood’s famous “Randy’s Donuts."

As a student at Harvard's Graduate School of Design, Emma tries to bring whimsy to the serious subjects she studies like climate change and ethical AI. This mug is a background motif from an art piece she worked on to illustrate one of her personal mantras "Make Dope Shit". Bright colors and geometric form are common in her work along with palm trees, an ode to her beloved hometown: Long Beach, California.

Erick Pepper Rivera is a composer and cartoonist. As a Watts native, his work often explores the relationship between art and society. Rivera is a member of the Los Angeles-based collective The Tables which produces music videos, infomercials, comics, short films, and a podcast. He graduated with a BFA from the California Institute of the Arts. Erick currently writes music for picture and draws comics/zines in Los Angeles, where he lives with his wife and lazy dog.
